France distances itself from US strikes, urges de-escalation

Jun 22, 2025, 11:14 GMT+1

France distanced itself from the US strikes on Iranian nuclear sites on Sunday, warning against further escalation and reaffirming its opposition to a nuclear-armed Iran.

Paris was not involved in the attacks or their planning, Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot said.

“We noted with concern the US strikes carried out against three Iranian nuclear program sites,” Barrot said.

“France has repeatedly expressed its very firm opposition to Iran acquiring nuclear weapons,” he added and called on all sides to avoid steps that “could lead to an extension of the conflict.”

US strikes raised risk of wider conflict, Turkey says

Jun 22, 2025, 11:08 GMT+1

US attacks on Iranian nuclear sites have sharply increased the danger of regional conflict, Turkey’s foreign ministry said Sunday.

"US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities have raised risk of conflict spreading, instability rising to highest level," the ministry said.

No off-site contamination from strike on Isfahan nuclear site, IAEA says

Jun 22, 2025, 10:59 GMT+1

The Iranian Isfahan nuclear facilities struck earlier in the day held either no nuclear material or only small amounts of natural or low-enriched uranium, limiting any radioactive contamination to the affected buildings, the International Atomic Energy Agency said Sunday.

“This nuclear complex in Esfahan – one of the key sites of the Iranian nuclear program – has repeatedly been attacked and extensively damaged,” Director General Rafael Grossi said.

“Based on our analysis of the nuclear material present, we don’t see any risk of off-site contamination. Nevertheless, as I have repeatedly stated, nuclear facilities should never be attacked.”

US crossed Iran’s red line with nuclear site attack, Araghchi says

Jun 22, 2025, 10:42 GMT+1

The United States had crossed one of Iran’s most serious red lines by attacking its nuclear facilities, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Sunday.

"The US crossed a very big red line by attacking Iran’s nuclear facilities," he said.

Speaking in Istanbul, Araghchi said the US bore full responsibility for the consequences of its actions and said Tehran would respond using all tools at its disposal.

“The attack on peaceful nuclear installations marks a dangerous precedent and will not go unanswered,” he said.

Araghchi criticized Washington for undermining diplomacy and giving what he called a green light to Israel’s military operations.

"They betrayed diplomacy, they betrayed negotiations...Iran has done nothing wrong, it is difficult to understand why we were attacked on a false claim."

Regarding the overnight US attacks on nuclear site, he said "the extent of damages are being investigated."

"The international community should condemn the attacks."

Tehran reserves its right under the UN Charter to defend itself and respond proportionately to acts of aggression, he added.

Trump has started a new war for the US with Iran strike, Medvedev says

Jun 22, 2025, 10:20 GMT+1

US President Donald Trump launched a new war by ordering strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, Dmitry Medvedev, deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council said Sunday.

“Trump, who came in as a peacemaker president, has started a new war for the US,” Medvedev wrote on Telegram.

His remarks came after Trump confirmed the US had struck three major nuclear sites in Iran and warned of further attacks if Tehran rejects peace.

IRGC warns US bases are 'points of vulnerability' in the region

Jun 22, 2025, 10:14 GMT+1

The widespread presence of US military bases across the region represents not a strength but a point of vulnerability, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said Sunday in a statement following overnight American strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.

"As we have repeatedly stated, the number, dispersion, and extent of US military bases in the region are not a point of strength, but rather have doubled their vulnerability," the Revolutionary Guards said in a Sunday statement.

Iran’s nuclear capabilities are resilient against foreign attacks, the IRGC added.

“We firmly assert that Iran’s indigenous and peaceful nuclear technology cannot be destroyed by any attack,” the statement said.
